Dr. Devin’s Wellness Wednesday Workshop – Episode 54 Feeding Your Baby 👶

Today we talk about baby food needs including breastfeeding, formula, when to start on solid foods, and what solid foods to start with. 

Welcome to Dr. Devin’s Wellness Wednesday Workshop where my goal is to help you maintain or improve your active lifestyle. We will answer these questions today:

  2. Why should a baby be breastfed instead of just pumping at least once a day?
  3. If your baby is restless after breastfeeding, what are 2 things to check?

  7. What are the best 1st foods to give to your baby?

Answers

  1. Breast milk has all the nutrients and antibodies that a baby needs.
  2. During breastfeeding, the baby’s saliva will alert the mother’s body that it needs more of certain nutrients or antibodies from mom.
  3. Check the mom’s diet for potential food allergens and take your baby to a chiropractor.
  4. The infant formula companies to choose from are:
    1. Nature’s One Baby’s Only Organic
    2. Holle Organic Formula
    3. Kabrita
    4. Neocate
  5. To support your body in producing milk try:
    1. Young Living Essential Oils – Clary Sage, Fennel, and Basil
    2. Get enough rest
    3. Nurse frequently
    4. Eat a healthy and nutritious diet
    5. Drinking at least 64 ounces of water daily
      1. Ideal is ½ body weight = ounces of water
    6. Meditation before or while pumping can increase milk production
  6. Your baby is ready for solid foods:
    1. After they get their first tooth
      1. A baby’s stomach doesn’t produce any enzymes to digest food until this happens
    2. When your baby can sit in a high chair comfortably on their own
    3. Baby looks interested at mealtime
    4. Baby can move food to the back of their throat to swallow
  7. Sweet potato, Avocado, Green beans, Butternut squash, Banana, Apples, Pears
