Today we discuss the dangers of eating junk food and fast food. It’s just a chemical concoction made in a lab that is addictive and harmful to your health. Welcome to Dr. Devin’s Wellness Wednesday Workshop where my goal is to help you maintain or improve your active lifestyle. Answers

  1. Any food that is highly processed, high in calories and low in nutrients.
    1. High in added sugars, salt and saturated or trans fats.
    2. As addictive as alcohol and drugs.
    3. Most fast food can be classified as junk food.
  2. When used in moderation it is a major cause of heart disease, fatty liver disease, obesity, cancer, dementia, liver failure, tooth decay, and more.
  3. No. Every food with high fructose corn syrup is very poor-quality food.
    1. If you want to stay healthy, lose weight easily, get rid of chronic disease, and help reduce the obesity epidemic, the single most important thing you can do is eliminate high fructose corn syrup from your diet and from your children’s diet. Just banish it from your house.

    1. Adding salt to your homemade food is very beneficial to your heart
    2. The amount of salt in junk food is toxic and is a major contributor to heart disease
  5. They raise LDL “bad” cholesterol and lower HDL “bad” cholesterol.
    1. They contribute to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and liver disease.
  6. Short-term consequences
    1. Just one serving of junk food can increase inflammation throughout your body.
      1. Make a person feel hungrier at their next meal
      2. Makes you feel hungrier faster
    2. Poor cognitive performance
    3. Feel tired
    4. Trouble concentrating – not enough oxygen
    5. Mood swings
    6. Constipation
    7. Shortness of breath
    8. Acne
    9. Eczema
  7. Long-term consequences
    1. Obesity
    2. Depression
    3. Digestive issues
    4. Heart disease and stroke
    5. Type 2 diabetes
    6. Cancer
    7. Decreased fertility
    8. Asthma
    9. Early death
